My daughter’s best friend is staying for dinner tonight. I want my husband to observe the girl and tell me if he thinks that there is some Parental Alienation going on. It is called the Fun Jar! You simply get an old mason jar and let your children decorate it however they wish. Get out the stickers and markers and have at it! 

Once you are finished get little strips of paper and on them put fun activities the family can do together. Once you are finished with this, put the strips of paper inside the decorated jar and let the fun surprises begin!

Your friend’s child wants the toy you brought along so you asked your child to share it.

Do you see what’s wrong in the picture? I do and I’m going to tell you. The problem is you made your child believe that she can enjoy the toy when you arrive in the park, yet you made her give the toy to another child once you’re there. Now, how unfair can that be?

To make things fair, try a different approach. Let your child enjoy her toy first, and then ask her to share it when she’s done playing. Say something like “That’s your doll and you can play with it as much as you want to. When you’re done, you can choose to share it with Betty and then maybe you can borrow her ball when she’s finished with it”.

Acknowledging that the toy belongs to your child, and then allowing her to play with it first makes it much easier for her to share. Just remember to talk to her rather than snatch the toy away from her and give it to another child.
